Taftsville’s iconic covered bridge sustained minor damage Wednesday when, according to witnesses, a black pickup truck towing a white camper came through from the Quechee side of the bridge and struck the overhang on the south side of the river. The truck and the broken camper then left the scene of the accident headed eastbound on Route 4 leaving a trail of white batting-like insulation every few hundred yards all the way past the Fat Hat Factory. “I followed the insulation up Route 4 and checked all of the campgrounds in the area but didn’t find it,” said Woodstock Police Corporal James Otranto. “We have very little to go on beyond that at this point but the state police have put a be-on-the-lookout message out for it and we’re just waiting to see if someone spots it.”
