After re-opening to traffic on May 2 five days ahead of schedule, the Bridge 51 replacement project on Central Street in Woodstock Village is on pace for completion by June 8. There is currently sidewalk access on the north side of the project site, though High Street remains closed to traffic.

Read more about the bridge’s progress in this week’s May 10 print or e-edition.

Here’s the latest update from the Vermont Agency of Transportation:

Please use caution while driving over the bridge. Until final paving is completed, drivers should anticipate a 3-inch ramp from the existing US Route 4 roadway down onto the base layer of pavement.

Businesses on either side of the bridge are open and remain accessible via the five-foot-wide pedestrian pathway on the north side of the bridge (Post Office Side).

Construction will continue this week with two-way traffic across the bridge, reduced as needed, to alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers. Remaining work includes paving, sidewalks and the bridge rail. The crew is currently working on the sidewalk and concrete bridge railing. Final paving is scheduled to take place in two weeks.

Pedestrian access across the bridge will be maintained via a five-foot-wide temporary pathway on the North side of the bridge (the post office side). Access to the Pi Brick Oven Trattoria will require traversing around the work-site on the north side of the bridge and access the door on the east side of the building. Access to the post office, restaurants and retail shops on the north side will be open. Flaggers will be present to assist pedestrians crossing from the south sidewalk to the north side.

Parking from High Street to Mechanic Street will continue to be unavailable.

Construction activities can be expected weekdays during the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. No night or weekend work is anticipated at this time. VTrans will keep you informed of any changes to construction activities related to the Woodstock Village US Route 4 Bridge 51 project throughout the duration of the construction season.
