Observed on the first Saturday of May, Green Up Day is a statewide effort in Vermont to clean up roadside trash. The big day is this Saturday, May 5. Below, find your town’s locations and times to help clean up your community.
Barnard
We meet at the Barnard General Store at 8 a.m. for bag pick up and road confirmation of clean up. Sign up on Genius Sign Up on Barnard List Serve or a sign up sheet at the Barnard General Store. A cup of coffee and mini muffin coupon is available for the Store. Also a $25 raffle ticket to the BGS comes with signing up. The town will have a dump truck at the store to put the collected roadside trash in. There will also be a town truck in East Barnard for pick up.
Bridgewater
Pick up bags at Town Clerk’s Office prior to Green Up Day or at 8 a.m. the day of. Leave bags along roadsides or bring to Fast Trash, 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Come Saturday at 8 a.m. to pick up your bags and road assignment.
Hartland
Bags may be picked up at Damon Hall prior to Green Up Day or at 8 a.m. at the 3 Corners Fire Station on Green Up Day. There will be a free appreciation brunch beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the 3 Corners Fire Station. Return full bags to the 3 Corners Fire Station. Plymouth
While Plymouth does not have a Green Up Day Coordinator this year, there are plenty of green bags should you decide you would like to help on May 5. Just stop by the Town Office and pick up a supply. On May 5, there will be a dumpster in the back of the Town Offices by the Town Garage for you to deposit your green bags. We are open Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Pomfret
Bags pickup and drop off at Town Garage on LaBounty Rd. from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. No roadside pick up. Bring all materials to the Town Garage by Sunday afternoon. Household trash and tires will NOT be accepted. Call or email if you want bag pick-up before Green Up Day.
Quechee (Hartford)
Bags available at the Hartford Municipal Building M-F, 8-5. On Green Up Day meet at 9 a.m. at Municipal Building. Bring full bags to Municipal Bldg., Quechee Green or Hartford Recycling Center.
Reading
Bags can be picked up the week prior to Green Up Day at the Greenhouse, Town Hall and Watroba’s General Store. Free coffee will be offered at the Town Hall from 8 to 9 a.m. on Green Up Day where bags and assignments will be given. Bring bags to the Weathersfield Transfer Station for free. Pot luck lunch from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Town Hall following Green up work. All are welcome!
West Windsor
Bags available at Town Office or at Albert Bridge School on Green Up Day. Drop full bags off at School from 8:30-3, or bring them to the Weathersfield Transfer Station at no charge.
Windsor
Volunteers will be handing out bags and logging locations starting at 8:30 a.m. and continuing to around 1 p.m. at the Town Hall. Breakfast goodies will be available as well as burgers and dogs later in the day. The Highway Department will have trucks on hand to handle the collected waste. Please do stop by so we can keep track what streets are getting cleaned up and where bags may be left. The crew will go out later Saturday or on Monday to pick up what is left on the roadside.
Woodstock
Meet at the Woodstock Town Hall at 8 a.m., where participants will be given a road to work on and trash bags for collecting the litter. After your route is finished, bring your bags to the Town Highway Garage on Route 4 in West Woodstock for disposal and have a snack with your fellow Green Uppers.
