HARTLAND — A Springfield woman was seriously injured first thing Saturday morning when she hit a deer on Interstate 91 in Hartland, causing her to be ejected from her car, which rolled over into the median of the highway.

Sarah Freeman, 31, was reported to be unconscious and unresponsive when she was being treated at the scene by first responders that included crews from Hartland Rescue, Hartland Fire, Hartford Ambulance and Golden Cross Ambulance.

Freeman was loaded onto a DHART medical helicopter which landed on the interstate and airlifted her to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center where a staff member said Saturday afternoon that no information about her condition was available.

Vermont State Police troopers who investigated the crash, which totaled Freeman’s 2007 Toyota Camry, said she had not been wearing her seatbelt.

The collision, which occurred shortly before 7 a.m. near mile marker 63, caused the northbound lanes of the interstate to be shut down for over two hours.
