The boys basketball team will travel to Barre Auditorium tonight, Monday, to take on No.
8 Mount St. Joseph at 8:15 p.m.
The Wasps punched their ticket to Barre again after beating Fair Haven Slaters 60-50 in the Division II quarterfinals Saturday afternoon.
Sizzling hot of late, Woodstock won their fifth straight game on Saturday. The Wasps jumped all over the Slaters from the tip-off putting together quick
breaks, field goals and three-pointers together to take a 23-9 lead after the first quarter.
Why so hot from the get-go?
“Well, we kinda stunk last time we played them—I think we lost by 17—and so they wanted a quick start,” said Coach Jeff Thomas. “I didn’t have to tell them anything. Letting Fair Haven take a lead was the last thing on their minds.”
An extraordinary battle for the ball in the Fair Haven end by Lucas Godfrey with just over three minutes remaining seemed to be the backbreaker of the game on Saturday. Flat on his back, and double teamed with a Slater draped over him, he flipped the ball back to ball back to a green and white uniform, and though the shot did not sink, the entire Wasp bench was up, jumping, yelling and applauding.
Between, a good one-minute stall, and some good shooting by Curren McDonald at the free throw line in the waning minutes as the Slaters fouled on every Woodstock possession, the Wasps stretched the lead to 60-50 by the final buzzer. McDonald was top scorer for Woodstock with 13, of which, 8 came from the free-
throw line.
