Boys Hockey Stays No. 1 In D-II With Wins

The Woodstock boys hockey team rebounded nicely from its first loss of the season by sweeping a pair of games, at Missisquoi and home against Hartford. The twin wins kept Woodstock at the top of the Division II standings with a 12-1 mark.

On Wednesday, Woodstock shut out the Thunderbirds 4-0. Freshman Lucas Piconi had a pair of goals while Cullen McCarthy and Steven Townley both scored as well. McCarthy and Josh Kennedy both had two assists.

Three nights later, Woodstock squared off against rival Hartford for the third time this season. The combined score for those first two games was Woodstock 6-2. The final score for this game was, also 6- 2.

Piconi continued his hot hand with the first hat trick of his varsity career. McCarthy, Brian Townley and Kevan O’Connell joined him in finding the back of the net. McCarthy and Steven Townley each recorded a pair of assists.

The boys will be on the road this Saturday at Burr & Burton at 6:45 p.m. in the middle game of a challenging three-game road trip.

The boys hockey team won an addition game away against Burlington High School 6-2 on Wednesday. Improving their record to 13-1-0 for the season. The wasps take the ice again at Burr & Burton on Saturday, January 30 at 6:45p.m.
